At the opening of China’s Zhuhai air show, COMAC made a major announcement, revealing that Air China would be the first customer for its new C929 widebody jet. The show also displayed a model of China’s upcoming uncrewed spaceplane, marking a significant step in the nation’s aerospace ambitions. COMAC has rebranded its regional ARJ21 jet as the C909, with weight and cost-saving improvements. Hainan Airlines has committed to purchasing 60 C919s and 40 C909s, while Colorful Guizhou Airlines placed an order for 30 C909s.
In addition to COMAC’s announcements, Airbus indicated that it welcomes healthy competition from Chinese manufacturers and expects its A330neo jet to receive certification in China, potentially allowing for the first delivery by 2025.
Aerospace company AVIC, meanwhile, showcased its spaceplane model, intended for cargo missions to China's space station. Also on display was the Z-20 military helicopter, being adapted for various roles, including anti-submarine warfare, supporting the PLA Navy’s expanding operations. The air show will run through November 17.
