In a recent announcement, former President Donald Trump revealed he does not plan to re-hire former officials Nikki Haley and Mike Pompeo if he returns to office. Haley, a former governor of South Carolina and recent competitor for the Republican nomination, had criticized Trump during the primaries, calling him “unhinged” before ultimately endorsing him. Despite this, her inclusion in Trump’s administration was already seen as unlikely.
Mike Pompeo, who served as Trump’s secretary of state and was previously the CIA director, was considered a potential pick for secretary of defense. However, Trump has now dismissed that possibility. Veteran political strategist Roger Stone warned on his website of "neoconservatives" aiming for influential roles in the administration, mentioning both Haley and Pompeo. Pompeo has not yet commented publicly on the news.
