President-elect Donald Trump announced on Sunday that Tom Homan, former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), will oversee U.S. borders in his new administration. Homan, who will serve as the "Border Czar," will be responsible for the Southern and Northern Borders as well as Maritime and Aviation Security. Additionally, he will manage the deportation of undocumented immigrants.
Homan, who served in Trump’s first administration, is also being considered for the role of Homeland Security Secretary. Throughout his campaign, Trump emphasized strict immigration policies, with Homan playing a key role in rallying support for these efforts. Trump continues to meet with candidates to finalize his cabinet ahead of his January 20 inauguration. Representative Elise Stefanik has been offered the position of U.S. ambassador to the United Nations.
