Trump Demands FBI Investigation into Liz Cheney's Jan. 6 Actions

President-elect Donald Trump is urging the FBI to investigate former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney for her role in the January 6th Capitol attack investigation. This call follows a report by the Republican-led House Administration Oversight Committee, which alleges that Cheney may have violated federal laws during the probe.

The committee's interim report suggests that Cheney engaged in unauthorized communications with key witness Cassidy Hutchinson, potentially constituting witness tampering. These alleged interactions, conducted via encrypted messaging without Hutchinson's attorney's knowledge, have raised concerns about the integrity of the investigation.

Trump, who is set to return to the White House in January 2024, has previously indicated a desire for retribution against his adversaries, particularly those involved in legal actions against him. He has also suggested the possibility of pardoning individuals charged in connection with the January 6th riot.

In response to the committee's report, Cheney, daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney, dismissed the allegations as an attempt to distort the truth and protect Trump. She characterized the report as a baseless attack and defended her actions during the investigation.

The House Administration Committee's recommendation does not guarantee action from the Justice Department, especially as Trump's appointees are set to take office. This development marks another chapter in the ongoing disputes stemming from the Capitol riot investigation and Cheney's opposition to Trump's policies.
