Trump to Take Swift Action on Immigration, Ramp Up Border Enforcement on Day One

On his first day in office, President-elect Donald Trump plans to issue a series of executive orders aimed at enhancing immigration enforcement and dismantling several of President Biden’s immigration policies. These actions would include easing restrictions on arresting undocumented immigrants without criminal records, increasing border security, and resuming border wall construction. Additionally, Trump aims to end Biden’s humanitarian programs that have allowed thousands of migrants to enter the U.S. legally, and he may restart the "Remain in Mexico" policy for asylum seekers. Trump's administration is also expected to prioritize the deportation of individuals with expired legal statuses and criminal backgrounds. Legal challenges to these actions are expected, particularly from Democratic states and pro-immigration groups.
