Former Red Army Faction Member Faces Charges in Multi-Million Euro Heist Series

After decades on the run, 66-year-old Klette was arrested in Berlin in February and now faces charges for her alleged involvement in a series of robberies totaling over 2.7 million euros. Alongside two accomplices, still at large, she is accused of carrying out numerous armed raids on money transport vehicles and supermarkets across Germany between 1999 and 2016.

Prosecutors in Verden allege that in one 2015 heist in Stuhr, she aimed a firearm at a victim while seizing funds. However, her lawyer disputes this, claiming that the investigation does not support the accusation that she intentionally targeted a money transport driver.

Authorities believe Klette and her associates, purported members of the third generation of the disbanded Red Army Faction (RAF), organized the heists to ensure a steady income. Known for its violent attacks on political and business figures as well as U.S. military personnel in the 1970s and 80s, the RAF formally dissolved in 1998. Verden’s district court will now review the case to determine if it will go to trial.
