Israeli Airstrikes Target Hezbollah-Controlled Suburbs in Beirut Amid Ongoing Lebanon Conflict

On Tuesday, Israeli forces launched multiple airstrikes on Hezbollah-controlled areas in southern Beirut, following a declaration from Israel's defense minister ruling out a ceasefire until Israel’s objectives are met. Explosions and smoke were seen across Beirut as Israel identified and targeted 12 sites believed to be tied to Hezbollah. Most residents of these areas had already evacuated, though no casualties were immediately reported.

Tensions between Israel and Hezbollah have intensified since September when Israel began a more aggressive campaign in Lebanon. Over the past seven weeks, Israel has conducted numerous airstrikes, reportedly killing several Hezbollah leaders and causing widespread damage in both urban and rural areas. In Israel, air raid sirens sounded as aerial threats were detected from Lebanon, though no injuries were reported.

Israel has outlined specific goals for ending the conflict, including disarming Hezbollah and enforcing security south of Lebanon’s Litani River. Meanwhile, Hezbollah continues its resistance, launching rockets into Israel. Efforts for a ceasefire face challenges due to enforcement issues, with Hezbollah signaling readiness for prolonged conflict. The Lebanese government, which includes Hezbollah members, has called for a ceasefire that aligns with a UN resolution, but Israeli officials remain firm on achieving military objectives before considering peace.

Casualty reports indicate that the conflict has led to significant losses, with over a million displaced and thousands injured or killed.
